George Laraque wanted just to display difficulties of a child to become a good sportsman

Georges Laraque described his difficult life of sports in a book “The story of the NHL’s unlikeliest tough guy”. He desired to share his biography with others. Georges Laraque noted also about administration of anabolic steroids in the National Hockey League (NHL). These references about intake of steroids in NHL seemed to be very interesting. The Canadian press published just the quotes related to this eternal subject. The rest of the book was neglected.
Georges Laraque told in an interview that he had never taken performance-enhancing drugs. Moreover, he pointed out that he hadn’t mentioned any names of the athletes that had used steroids. The book is indeed an autobiography.
The author describes some ways in order to determine whether a hockey player applies steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs or not. Here are 2 ways described by him:
1. A hockey player who gains more than 40 pounds in a short period of time must be applying steroids.
2. A hockey player that reduces his weight essentially in short period of time in order to correspond to the indications of the Winter Olympics must be utilizing performance-enhancing drugs.
Undoubtedly, all sportspersons, including hockey players, know that they will be tested for steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. That’s why they cease taking the banned medicines certain time before the Olympics. It helps them to escape from risk of testing positive for these medications.
But this is not the main idea of the book. George Laraque wanted to show that a child has to put incredible efforts to become an excellent professional athlete in spite of racial intolerance and reviling. But the press is not interested in this theme. The media is always ready to publish stories related to intake of steroids by sportsmen.
It was not the goal of the author to to make public the names of the hockey players that took steroids.
Of course, the media tries to convince the author to mention the names of the NHL’s players that use steroids.
